First all you have to buy the cow.

100 head at 3300 a head would be 20k per year in interest alone.
Neighbors would not look kindly at a single strand perimeter fence...although its been done before.

Water.

Guys that have split up fields with bordering pastures or the need to do land treatment anyway would be much more inclined to do it.

CRP rates over 300 are a bad joke. No reason in the world for Uncle Sam to be shelling out that kind of coin on productive soil. At least here, no general sign up....you have to bid into a program on focuses on hHel hellaciously highly erodible land. Example, one parcel here currently at 65 can be bid back in for a bit over a $100 bill. Still considering just haying it. Hunting interest is higher every year, especially if managed correctly.

There won't be any wholesale shift. Mostly due to lack of animals but also guys will bleed equity for a couple years before doing anything drastic and by that time the beef train will be over the hill and heading the other way.
