You gotta keep in mind that "the rest of the state" extends almost 500 miles north, west, and up from here.   The guys in the other corner get 10" per year, guess who has to raise the average

One rain, or it's failure to appear, pretty well does make or break our crop every year.  If we don't get a rain the last week of July/first week of August, we aren't going to have much of a crop.  If we get that one, and we didn't have some other unusual problem, then we are probably going to have a decent year.
