we've double cropped silage corn after 1st cut of hay for years... and we're likely several heat units less than you guys. Always cobs out too but we pound the fert and litter to it, and always side-dress heavy in lat july / early aug. Never combined it, but we had several fields of 17-21 row cobs, 32 k pop. Good Fert helps.
