Mid Michigan
What makes you think that a 21st century commercial farm is farmed any better or more profitable than a 100 acre small farm? If guys can farm 100 acres profitably with no loans from the bank or help from the taxpayers and the guy that farms 2000 has to get loans, subsidies and crop insurance to get by who is doing better for the people farming? I know you'll say you can dictate and bargain on your seed and fertilizer prices because you buy tons of supplies but while your doing all that the guy is getting his 100 acres planted and harvested and not sucking up a prevent plant insurance check. I wish there were still more small farms. When I think of big farms I think of companies like MCI Worldcom or General Motors, Titan equipment. All too big to fail.
