Columbia Basin, Ephrata, WA | I assume they left farming some time ago, like maybe the 80's? Even if not that long ago, when they farmed, it was a lot more work than it is now. Generally smaller equipment meant longer hours, and without autosteer and a nice seed tender. They probably compare the kind of work they did and the income per acre, to the kind of work farming is now with the incomes of the last 5 years. Think of it that way and it's really easy to see how they'd think farmers aren't working hard enough and are making way too much per acre.
