Houston,Tx | the short version is the CFTC broke out (began) CIT in Jan 2007 - so between then until 2-3 months ago, the most net long or least net short comm have been was about minus (net short) 79k contracts - 2010 and 2011 lows.
best i can discern comparing the "other" pre-2007 reports is commercials have similar board ownership levels - which are close being equivalent = late summer/early fall 2006 when prices were 540-600.
