Dan, had the same problem with my !688. Tried every combination of settings still too much rotor loss. Pulled every-other wire (large wire concave) and fully retarded vanes still too much loss. Finally installed two sets of straight bars now I'm pleased. I use cover plates for soys and wheat. The straight bars do rob some capacity in tough soys.
