Northern CA | I had a 1997 model 5240, the last year they were built. Hands down, it was the worst piece of equipment we have owned with a manufacturing date later than 1985. Prior to that, a Massey with a V8 was the worst. My 5240 lost a power shift at 4800 hours. Lost the injection pump at 4900 hours. Air seat always leaked, cab was louder than I would like, and the darn exhaust pipe is in the middle of the hood when most tractors had moved to the side. The parking brake failed earlier and was repaired when it was split for the transmission. Also, there is no reverse in the fourth range.
The happiest tractor day on our farm was when the 5240 left and the Kubota M125 showed up. My 5240 looked sharp and clean. It was MFWD. It sat on the dealer's lot for sale for almost two years with new tires and a warranty on the power shift and a price tag of $29,000. | |
