SEON | 2900 is nothing for these tractors. That is brand new. Are you sure it's 2900? IIRC, my mech told me that the hrs can be reset somehow. Ours all have 5000-7000 hrs. An older 5130 (no powershift) made it to 16,000 without being split or an engine rebuild.
Single biggest problem is the power shift if it has one (pretty sure the '96's did). We habe ~ 10 of these Maxxums but not sure what years they are.
There is a very good chance that when trans heats up to working temp that at least one or two of the power shift gears won't work. Tractor stops dead and you need to shut if off and start again...remembering not to use that powershift gear. If you are lucky, it might just be a solonoid under the seat. If not,....rebuild time. Try running through the gears with your foot on the brake to see if the trans slips. It should either power through the brakes or stall.
If they were used as a loader then maybe the front steering yoke things (one at each wheel) might be worn out. We abuse ours to move 3 hay bales at a time and even then we dont have much trouble. Look for oil leaks in this area.
Other than that, they are a solid tractor.
