Dalton, OH | I have many neighbors that get along great with line wrapping, but with that said, I can get way more done in a day individual wrapping square bales and have a consistently better finished product. We usually wrap 15-17,000 3x3x6 ft square bales per year at moistures from 15-60% with bales ranging in weight from 800-1600 lbs. We used to use a McHale 998 wrapper and could average 45 bales/hour with 10 layers of plastic. We now hire a contractor that has 995's and can average 40 bales per hour per wrapper and has up to 4 wrappers he can bring in when necessary. All of our bales are picked-up before they are wrapped and then wrapped at a stack location and stacked 4 high. The goal is to minimize how many times the bales are handled after they are wrapped. Our best day has been 1800 bales baled, picked-up and wrapped in one day and we were done by dark. Goal is to always have the hay wrapped within 2 hours of baling. The quality of the plastic is extremely important when wrapping as it sounds like most of you already know. There are many good brands on the market but there are also some very poor "cheap" ones. | |
