Subject: Class ratings for combines

Humeston, IA

I think Farm Industry News recently showed the various combines on the NA market by class rating.  For example, the Cat 595R was a Class 9, JD 9860, Case AFX8010, etc were Class 8, and so on.

So, in comparing the capacity of one class to another, would there be a ratio one could use?  For example, is a Class 6 machine 1.5 times a Class 5?  Is a Class 9 1.5 times a Class 8?  If 1.5 is the ratio, that would mean a Cat 595R would be 6 times the capacity of JD 9560 (class 5).  Or, is that stretching things a bit?

Not wanting to start a color war, just thought it might be helpful to compare machines by their "Class" rating.
