Grey, nodules if mushy are basically dead and not producing nitrogen. This can happen under pro longed flooded conditions. Vail, I would have to take a look to see what else it could be. If you would like me to take a look drop me a PM. As the roots get oxygen back, new nodules will start to form. Especially on the main tap root.
