Not trying to stir anything, just curious.

Not really. When specific brands were mentioned, they were mostly just used as examples where the presenter picked on one brand, but could have picked any of a dozen others.

Deere and Monsanto (Climate Corp) were used as examples during the discussion on license agreements and policy statements, to show how different companies lay out their approach to sharing data. Not good, not bad, just different.

Also, it is important to note that a contract (license agreement) or NDA you sign with an entity is the legally-binding document that details how your data can/cannot be handled. It doesn't matter what is in a company's "policy" statement, unless that statement is specifically and explicitly included in the agreement you sign. i.e. Google's "do no harm" policy is not legally binding, so if you feel that their search results have harmed you, you can't sue them for violating their internal policy. That's a very simplistic example, obviously.

It would be interesting to see someone create a website where all the EULAs are posted for all of the companies that are offering some kind of data service...
