| Boog, we looked into them about four years ago and I think we figured up it was going to cost us around $13/acre at that time. They go by engine hours and at that time only used Class 6 combines so a guy really needs to be running 30' heads to keep the cost per acre down. At that time we figured if we were running a 30' bean head and a 12 row corn head they would have been comparable in cost to what we were able to roll from Waltermans for which was under $9/acre. As it turned out we did loose a little money when Walterman's went under last fall but at least we have a partly paid for combine in the shed and with Machinery Link we would have spent the same money and had nothing. I think the key to making something like Machinery Link work is to keep your cost per acre low but also take the money a guy currently has invested in a combine and put it into something that's going to increase in value rather than rapidly drop in value like a late model combine. | |
