diesel has 128,450 btu's/gallon
gas has 116,090 btu's/gallon.
propane has 84,950 btu's/gallon
ethanol has 76,330 btu's/gallon
these are units of work that will not change. no gallon of anything else will produce as much work as a gallon of straight #2 diesel.
Those are the energy potential numbers . A properly setup engine for running 100 ethanol can be very efficient. Problem is, the US has none and pushes e85.
Alcohol fuels burn very cool but very long. You need a large expansion cycle |
