I am pretty sure the car jumped sideways from the impact of the tire hitting Ward.
That was my take also, after watching the video several times. As gruesome as it sounds, I also wondered if the engine revving comes from loss of traction on the right rear... it's difficult to tell from the angle shown in the video.
