Subject: RE: Machinery Storage

Trenton, KY
Last year we did a overhaul of our buildings on the farm (no new buildings had been built since the 70's and one building was close to 80 years old so we were told) of course all of the buildings we tore down had been repurposed to be used for machinery storage, and it was a much needed upgrade to start fresh with buildings that were well thought out. We built a 70W x 96L x 18T with one of the 70' ends open and it faces N-NE, then we also built a 40W x 96L x 15T and one of the 96' sides is open with three 24' bays between the 6x6 posts (14' of clearance under the truss plates) and this building also faces N-NE and the front of it lines up with the front of the open end of the 70'. There is about 12-13' between the two buildings.

We went with the 96' depth on the 70' building because a 16-31 Kinze planter when hooked to the tractor is right at 75-80' long in the transport position and this way the front of the tractor is still 16' back in the building.

We went with the 40' deep building and the 24' bays thinking that we would have two lanes of stuff in each bay. We store our smaller implements in the 40' building, and we keep our lawn mowers, Polaris Ranger, 4 wheeler, and JD 2030 in front of the once a year use items like our side dress rig and corn head on its trailer.

I can post pictures if anyone wants to see.
