I would think that running the small auger too fast might actually be counterproductive. The grain needs some time and space to fall in.
I have noticed that augers moving the grain to the clean grain elevator in many combines seems to be around 400 RPM. I don't know if that is from a capacity standpoint or if this is just a somewhat arbitrary speed that many manufacturers have chosen.
