I'm not sure but there may be a wooden block used as the inner bearing on the cylinder auger you are refferring to. I once heard of someone who was having trouble shearing the cotter pins in the top cog on the return elevator on a 7700 combine, and I think the cause was the wooden block was gone or worn. i don't know if the problem was a result of the auger catching or if it was just the added drag that was shearing the pins.
