It's likely they track where the warranty $$$$ go. But just because a pickup has one size bigger tire on it or even a chip doesn't mean it's been abused. I've seen plenty of "stock" vehicles and/or equipment abused due to the owners neglect, etc.,,,,,,nothing to do with a chip or a tire change. However if the manufacturer or dealer is looking for a way out, this is one way to do it.
