Subject: RE: Reasons to use metric

Adelaide Hills, South Australia
I have a German made VDF Boehringer toolroom lathe, I can use the chasing dial with no problems on metric threads or imperial. There are threads in metric or imperial where there are less opportunities to engage the halfnuts. It has a very large selection of pitches in TPI and mm., all done with internal gears, not changing any manually. I will sometimes leave the half nuts engaged on short threads and reverse the lathe, no matter what the pitch. I can not remember the pitch of the leadscrew. The Germans have been cutting metric threads for quite a while!!
