Southern Ab
We have headed to Oregon twice a year for over ten years. For us flat landers there's no better place to be than the Pacific NW. It's much like BC but has a softer feel to it. Best route is through Spokane to Pasco then west through the gorge. Drive the north side of the Gorge for sure. If you're heading south from BC avoid Seattle. Head to Port Townsend and stay on that side.
We hang out around Astoria and take day trips from there. There are several hotels right on the Columbia river where the ocean vessels head upriver just a few hundred feet from your balcony.
If you head south from there you won't have any trouble finding things to do. If you have kids stop at the Sea Lion caves. Nothing smells quite like a couple thousand years accumulation of sea lion poop. They will talk about for years. There are a few seafood shops where you can buy cooked crab to go. Lots of smoked salmon joints.
I like to go home thru John Day and then catch some of the Palouse country. Lots of small towns with good people.
