NE Iowa | I have a 8 wheel rake with a center kicker wheel and personally I wouldn't want a rake without it. About 85% of the time I am raking hay that has been tedded. Without the kicker wheel there is a strip in the middle that doesn't get touched by a rake wheel. The baler pick-up may be able to pick up that strip of hay but it won't be as dry as if it had been "fluffed" by a rake wheel. Even if my hay isn't tedded my fields are odd shaped and many time the hay is being raked in a different direction from how it was mowed. Now if you never ted your hay and always rake the same way you cut it the kicker wheel would not be needed. | |
