Embarrass WI | My Dad was a B-17 pilot in Europe in WW2. He completed 24 missions, losing 2 crew members-both tail gunners. 3 B-17's he limped back to England never flew again, one broke in two when it touched the runway, another made it back on 1 engine.
In the late 80's they had a crew reunion at EAA, and got to go up in a B-17 for their "25th mission".
It took a long time for me to 'get it', but now I finally understand why tough times farming never bothered him much. | |
