Subject: RE: CR7090

Wi

atch - 7/12/2014 16:57 We've traded for a New Holland CR7090 combine. How much def will we use and how did you handle it? Plastic jugs or did you go through enough to use a tank and pump. Fuel tank holds 200 gal. Def tank 30 gal. TIA.

Dont know what they use, but an important number you are leaving out is the hours you will put on it per year.

Also, will you need to transport DEF to combine in field or will it be close enough to shop that it can return for DEF?

Is bulk DEF available in your area (should be)?

If you return to shop and will put enough hours on to use up a tote of DEF in two years, get a 275/330 tote and put it in the shop. If you need to go to field and/or will not use a ton of DEF maybe look at a 100 gallon or smaller portable setup that you can take to your local DEF supplier to be refilled as needed.

If you put any amount of hours on that combine in a year you will not want to deal with jugs.  The investment into DEF pumping equipment is not the cheapest, but you will be much happier with it.

Most important thing for DEF is quality. All API certified DEF is the same, its up to you to store it properly to avoid degradation issues. Out of sunlight and out of temperature changes is best. Cold does not hurt it. A sealed dispensing system also helps preserve quality. Making sure all components are rated for DEF helps as well.
