Near-north Ontario, French River | To clarify, you can carry 20k on the steers if you have the proper tires AND the proper axle and steering components. You can't just take a truck with a 12k rated steer axle, put bigger tires on and start hauling 20k, it doesn't work that way. 20K steer axles have beefier beams, kingpins, twin steering boxes, heavier springs, etc... . To further complicate things, at least here in Ontario, you can't just swap a 12k axle with a 20k axle( and all the extra components) and go to town, MTO will go off the original GMVW for the vehicle as it was shipped from the manufacturer. Want to do it legal, you have take the truck back to the manufacturer, have them install the axle and components, certify, and then have them change the GMVW tag on the door. Most if not all feed trucks up here are tr-iaxles, 20k steers followed by a lift and then tandem drives and are good for +-80K depending on axle spacings etc. |
