NE Iowa | I'm just a little east of you and have the same exact problem except mine isn't cut yet. Waiting for that perfect forecast I guess. New seeding alfalfa with ryegrass and patches of giant rags. I don't have any answers on how best to feed it. I plan to just feed mine in the middle of winter and make sure to use a feeder that doesn't have a bottom so I can lift it off and after they sort through it. Next year I'm gong to spray mine and hopefully prevent this problem. Buctril is labeled for alfalfa and grass at 1-1.5 pt. per acre. So that would only be $4.5-$6.75 / acre for generic Buctril. Just something to keep in mind.
