If you are into self-abuse, use something like Windows Movie Maker or Studio. Both/either will drive you insane eventually.

If you want to get serious about video/movie editing, get on Ebay and buy a cheap Mac Mini and use iMovie. I can throw together a 30 min. video in iMovie in about 5 min with less than a gig of ram. First time I used it, it brought tears to my eyes thinking about all the time and frustration I spent using WMM and Studio.

You will have less invested in the Mac Mini (which iMovie is included for free) than you would in a Windows movie editing package that might actually work without crashing several times on each project or taking all night to render.
