| We have done the reverse. Got the slow down kit and the beveled deck plates. Tried it on two rows the first year.
Noticed more butt shelling on those two rows and no appreciable trash reduction. The beveled deck plates came back off.
The following year we needed new sprockets. We talked to Marion and we didn't get the whole story the first year. (Or we weren't paying attention)
Turns out that along with the slow down sprockets you need to speed the snapping rolls up. I believe that we also sped the head drive up a little, but most of it was done by swapping the end sprockets around.
The second year we went with the slow down kit only... And modified a few of our snapping rolls to mimic the crushing rolls he has. The kit worked well for us, we did have less trash. The following year we found a set of Pixall rolls and modified all of them to mimic his crushing rolls becaus our modified Deere rolls didn't show us much. We had mixed success with them. Still have a lot of stalks. They are crushed well, but they are not chopped up much and we still have problems with plugging and rotting down.
This year I think we will spring for the chopping rolls. I didn't get a chance to go over the winter to his meetings... I was sick and I think my father in law ordered a set.
