In my opinion, aluminum pistons. There's a reason Cat, Cummins, Detroit, etc. went to steel-top or all-steel pistons. Aluminum just doesn't hold up, especially on an engine that is juiced up (not saying yours was).

It is my understanding that Deere is now using steel pistons in their 9L engines. That change came about for a reason, and it wasn't because steel is cheaper!
