southern MN | It appears the goal of the check off is to hold votes when farmers can least get out to vote, and the voting is a bit out of reach of the average farmer. That can well just be how things happen, but the look is there......
I don't care for the non refundable part of the check off.
It seems raw soybean value is tied directly to the weather in the USA and Beazil, ecconomic conditions governing the USA dollar vs the east of the world, and mostly if China wants more soybeans.
Beside those 3 factors, it would seem the check off efforts, tho well meaning, amount to not very much.
There is some value in their research and marketing and publicity, but a small deal, and small results. Still and all that would be worthwhile, and in the past I supported those efforts.
I become displeased with the ever increasing chunk they want out of my pocket, as a tax, when my markets are driven by the big three items, which no council or group can do much about at all.
When it was a growers group it was worthwhile.
It appears they have become just another tax, just another bunch wanting to live off fees from me. I say that because I feel I have no control of them, only am allowed to bow down and pay their fee before I even get paid myself.
It is unfortunate it feels that way to us growers, but that is where I am at. I feel we have zero control of the group, they are now detached from is farmers, and just want the Feds to always enforce taking bigger chunks out of my bean checks. You have removed yourself from is farmers when you enforced the uniformity and all exclusive, 'bow down and pay' stuff.
I realize this is negative, and don't mean it at all personally. There is a lot to appreciate from user check offs. My comments are to hopefully define some of the problems and point in new directions, not to put you or the group down.
It is unfortunate I feel detached from the group, and feel more used than a part of the users from my side of the coin. If that makes any sense.
