King City, Mo | I think we need more diversity. Too much mind set on corn, beans as crop insurance is setup to make them the most attractive to grow to keep corn price low.
Here you could shorten the season of corn or plant beans. If you plant beans July 4th after wheat it works 2/5 years or so.
Even planted at the end of July you can get a couple hay cutting off Sudan grass. Not as profitable as corn but it's something you can petal for cash.
Maybe more ground should be in pasture where the growing season is shorter? With the price of calves the cow calf guys are smiling all the way to the bank. | |
