Last year we planted some corn early. The weather turned cold and the corn came up 23 days later, after a pass with the rotary hoe. Was planted at 33k and final stand was a reasonably even 24k.
Decided to leave it and in the end it was the best yielding field on the farm.
Variety and weather will make the difference in your case with the latter being the more important of the two.
