The USDA is the best source that I have found for this type of info. Not sure how it is a big/little government thing, but they are the only information provider that I have seen that prints their error from previous reports. Also the USDA are one balance to large companies that are able to gather their own information. In this way they are able to somewhat balance the information gap that exists for small producers. If one looks at how and what the USDA and NASS collects data wise, their methods are sound. The problems come from the newer traders and others who over react to USDA numbers. I guess I see their data as just that. To say that they are slanted bearish seems a little conspiracy theorist to me.
conspiracy theorist? Really? I get really tired of hearing that when one questions the mighty and just USDA. The traders are working for some of the richest and most powerful people in the world. Also a lot of the same group who has the most political influence in the world. You don't think their is a slant or an agenda? Please. Do they run the USDA? No they do not. Do they have pull with the market and the data? Yes they do.

If I would have told you the IRS was auditing people because they weren't part of the socialist movement 5 years ago you would have called me crazy. But hey the people fought back and proved otherwise. It wasn't a whistle blower from within but lawyers and the people being harrassed that brought that to light.

As long as people tow the line and don't question anything it's just business as usual. We do not need a march acerage projection report. That info is available in July, we do not need yeild projections in may before the corn is barely above ground or even planted yet. They can do that in July with the average data. We also don't need yeild data in early fall. They have better data in November or December. All these things are tools to move the market either up or down. Let the traders do their own homework as we have too. Government isn't in the projection business. They are for concrete data gathering and nothing more. In this day of computers and fast info their is no excuse for 30 day old report info or errors.
