Subject: RE: emergence bigger problem then planting progress

East Central South Dakota
I am more concerned with emergence and believe it will be a bigger yield robber and problem then planting date. Hard to believe there will even be much corn planted in North Dakota and Northern Minnesota ---you can't plant this late and let it lie in the ground for another 24 days and combine 56 pound corn---look at their soil temps.

We were at 49-51 degrees at 4 inches and after rain last two days this morning we dropped to 41 degrees at 4 inches.

Uneven emergence those late comers are just weeds that will have a 30 percent moisture nubbin and plus holes were nothing.

If I was in an I-state I think I would plant more corn as corn acre numbers in the north west will be down.

Last year late planting at least came up right away.
