I haven't ever dealt with this scenario, so take my two cents with a grain of salt. However, I do know that rye is notorious for putting out aleopathic chemicals that suppress competing weed growth. So I'm not sure if that would affect the alfalfa establishment, due to the rye suppressing its growth. Again, I'm not sure what would happen. People plant into rye cover crops all the time, but they usually terminate it before the primary crop germinates.
In theory, your right.
I have fall seeded alfalfa with rye several times and it has worked fine.
I suppose the potential is there for problems, but nothing risked, nothing gained.... |
