Middlesex County, Ontario
We're about as far North as you are. Getting in the field and good planting conditions are two different things.

I know I can get into a no-tilled winter wheat stubble field earlier than one that was disced and needs to be cultivated. The problem is ground temperature, that no-tilled field just doesn't warm up. I don't know if you are familiar with OMAFRA but their research shows corn following cereals on our fine clay-xxxxxx soils has a 9 bu response to tillage.

I am interested in strip till. I think blackened rows will catch the sunlight and warm the strips up, and the tillage will bring that 9 bu back. Their research shows no yield difference between moldboard plowing and fall strip tilling on fine soils.
