Subject: Question for sgroff, other covercrop experts

IL
I have a field that is gently rolling, that I would like to disc this fall to level tile lines, and some washouts. This isn't the what I want to do as it is rolling, but needs to be done. A necessary evil. I was wondering about seeding some oats or spring barley to help hold the soil in place.... preferably spreading with the fertilizer. ( had good luck doing that with cereal rye this fall).
Here's my question....... with the low areas I am trying to fill in, will I put the spring barley/oats too deep? (3-4" maybe). It's those areas that need the cover to hold it in place till corn comes in the spring.... corn is the reason I was shying away from the ryes

I work alone, so am trying to combine trips across the field ( seeding with fert) and I don't have a drill of my own.
(btw this is following beans)
