They might, but that seedling will have a real long neck. I've seen them come through some real thick spots in wheat residue where the combine stopped and laid a big pile. Wild thought here, but could a guy run a rotary hoe over it just as the seedling is breaking the soil surface just to keep the residue fluffed up?
