Subject: RE: Bought 7000 planter, population question

The spring tooth harrow up front is to level the soil and work it one more time before planting. The first owner of my 7000 added those the day it was delivered and then the dealer and he fought it for a couple years because it underplanted. They added a drive sprocket to the other wheel (4 row wide) in case the chain was slipping. Didn't help. Turned out the harrow was lifting the planter bar and taking weight off the drive wheels so they were slipping on the freshly loosened dirt. When I bought it at a consignment auction (had another owner for a few years) it came with the harrow and I consigned the harrow to the next consignment auction.

Mounting such spring tooth harrows on the disk and field cultivator did a nice job of seed be preparation in fewer passes. And helped leave the field flat.
