Franklinton, LA | I know most of the posters have their own thoughts about what it takes to be a BTO. Early last century, Harry F Laws of Cleveland had a sugarcane plantation and sugar mill west of Baton Rouge, LA. When he went to Louisiana to check his operation, he hooked his private train cars to a train and headed for the farm. The train cars provided lodging for Mr. Laws and his servants plus a kitchen, dining area, office and area to entertain guests. The train cars were parked on a rail siding near the sugar mill. The plantation had a network of railroad tracks so they could use their small locomotive and train cars to haul the sugarcane from the field to the mill. I think Mr. Laws set the standard for what it takes to really be a BTO. | |
