How many times can you chisel before there are just no chunks to bring up? Seems to me that after a few times there wouldn't be any clods left to bring up after the soil all dried out.


We can have that problem in some of the real mellow ground here, even with fall tillage. Can't make it 'chunky' enough to have a good chance at holding it. Have gone to putting big furrowers (like for hilling potatoes) on the ripper shanks for the last pass, throws up nice tall ridges. No clods, but the ridges/valleys across the wind do a good job as well.
