Subject: RE: corn residue moving in strip till - an idea for NE CoC

Driftless SW Wisconsin

Great pics Cards Fan!  In Nebraska though I would run the corn head considerably higher and perhaps set the Aerway gangs at a notch steeper angle. Probably takes a bit of experimenting.

The key point is that most of that residue is still tied to the ground. Not a lot of rootballs showing.

Broc, there are a lot of different fertilizer options in this system. Using a Montag air cart behind your strip till machine you can also band some or all of your dry blend, increasing effectiveness... but that's another thread. N especially has a number of different very efficient options.

I've never been very successful convincing folks in NE that they really can grow very good corn at less than 1 unit of N per bu of grain.  Even though the restaurants often have warning signs in the rest rooms over the sink: " Warning Nitrates in Water, do not feed to children under 10 "... or something to that effect.

But they still keep applying 300 units N/a or even more.
