You post an interesting topic and definitely makes a guy think about what they are doing. My question or answer back to you is this:

Should we be interested in learning how to bank extra nitrogen or should we be concerned with being twice as efficient? If you can grow 200 bushels of corn using 200 # of Nitrogen, can we grow the same 200 bushels of corn somehow only using 100 or 150# of Nitrogen? OR can we grow 320 bushels of corn using that same 200# of Nitrogen?

I believe that without question, we are going to have to be way more efficient (voluntarily or mandatory). But I do think that soil health, building organic matter that will produce more N, manures and cover crops, and Nutrient cycling will be important for banking some extra N.

What do you think?
