The box is on a slide and it can be removed from the end of the culvert. That culvert was already in place when I installed that box. I think that when I put the box on I wasn't sure if the box would be large enough to handle the water that comes down that drain and wanted to be able to remove it if needed. Looking back at the picture I am pretty sure the chain was also there so I could get the thing installed the first time.
