South Central NE
Hi Pat,
I would say up front that I do think cool weather "up nort" can be a problem for no-tillers. Being from NE the no-till systems fit us perfectly. We have adopted a mild strip-tillage system into our no-till system. This gives us a clean seedbed and gets some of our fertilizer in the ground preplant. One thing I would take exception to is your statement that the weather does not necessarily work better or worse with either full or no-till systems. I believe, at least in our area, where every pass with a disk costs at a minimum 3/4" of rain that tillage does matter. That means that no-till stubble does retain all that water and anything else that falls. That lessens irrigation needs. A huge difference for us. But, we do come from two very different worlds! Thanks
