Why do you think the rye cover crop increased infiltration times as compared to bare no-till? At what stage are the covers at? How were the covers planted.
One guess I would have is that if the rye was drilled and it is still very small with not much root growth is that the tillage done by the drill reduced the infiltration more than what the rye has helped.
