You want heavy stuff 6-8oz woven stuff, not the cheaper 3oz stuff at the local big box hardware store. And (2) 3's don't make a 6 - it's like tearing a phonebook vs. 1000 sheets of individual paper.
Ask a local excavator guy where he gets his? Or look online for a US Fabrics or a ConTech-type place.
