We pounded a couple 6" well casings in the ground 2" and dumped in 16 oz of water, one acre inch, then kept track of how long it took to soak in. We would wait one minute after it was gone, then dump in another 16 oz for a second inch. - AREA 1st inch 2nd inch No-till cornstalks and rye cover 3:52 11:15 No-till cornstalks and no cover 3:05 8:50 Fall chisel plowed in the shank trench 22:32 52:00 Fall chisel plowed between shanks 62:00 no way No-till 13 way cover after wheat 1:25 4:25 No-till cornstalks and no cover 2:36 7:22 We decided lunch was more important than waiting for the second inch to soak in between the chisel shanks. This was all on level clay loam soil. The chiseled ground, across the road at the neighbors, was actually a little lighter soil.
