The fabric purpose is to stop the soil from moving. We lay the fabric
down 3 ' in the ground, then over the top, then on the back slope slope. This
way only water goes over the shoot, no soil loss to speak of. I've
had these in place for over 25 years and still holding. Just never
cut the fabric with a tillage tool, or mower, or the shoot will fail.
I put steel posts with white PVC in front of the structure , to avoid this.
